Olsen Irwin is proud to announce that several of our artists have been selected as finalists in this year’s Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes.
Being selected as a finalist is a huge honour to any artist as well as a nod of encouragement from the art establishment.
Olsen Irwin would like to publicly congratulate its 6 artists that have been selected across the three awards.
The Archibald Prize is awarded annually to the best portrait, ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics, painted by any artist resident in Australasia’.
Meagher’s portrait in the Archibald Prize depicts Daniel Johns the former lead singer of Silverchair.
Ryan chose to depict actor and fellow Olsen Irwin artist Noah Taylor. Ryan has painted Taylor’s face thirteen times across found op-shop paintings and ping pong bats.
The Wynne Prize is awarded annually for ‘the best landscape painting of Australian scenery in oils or watercolours or for the best example of figure sculpture by Australian artists’.
The Sulman Prize is awarded for ‘the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project by an Australian artist’.
From all of the staff of Olsen Irwin, best of luck to the 2015 finalists.
