Luke Sciberras

Artist

Luke Sciberras's trademark abstracts depict the Australian landscape, "I paint the outback. I go with a group of painters and we work all day and then cook and drink wine and sleep in our swags under the stars. What a luxury to have the time out there. It's amazing and once you've been to the outback it keeps luring you back."

His design piece is invested with the history of an Australian painting dynasty: a Windsor chair given to him by Wendy Whiteley and made by her father-in-law Clem, Brett Whiteley and Frannie Hopkirk's father. Clem and Beryl designed and made West Coast American furniture in the 50s. For Luke, the luxury is not only in the story, it is also in the chairs generous proportions, There aren't many chairs that can take his six-foot-two frame. He paints for hours every day and flops into the chair to relax and then leaps from it when inspired. "This is designed so well it has lasted me 10 years so far."
