OLSEN Gallery artist Jacqui Stockdale is a finalist in the 2019 Bowness Photography Prize with her work Duel of the Mount 1.
The Bowness Photography Prize has become an important survey of contemporary photographic practice and one of the most prestigious prizes in the country, providing Australian artists with the opportunity to exhibit at one of Australia's leading public galleries. Since 2017 the prize has been acquisitive and the $30,000 cash prize awarded to the winner ensures that it continues to provide a significant boost to an artist's career. The Sotheby's Australia People's Choice Award has been doubled this year from $2,500 to $5,000.
The shortlist for the 2019 Bowness Photography Prize reveals artists continued fascination with exploring and pushing the boundaries of the photographic medium, embracing its capacity to explore a diversity of voices and perspectives.
The exhibition will run from 5 October - 17 November 2019, at the Monash Gallery of Art, 860 Ferntree Gully Road WHEELERS HILL VIC 3150.

Soho House members will finally be able to bask by the pool in Los Angeles or stay the night at their favorite hangout. The exclusive club is drawing back the curtains on its third West Coast location, known as Soho Warehouse, in downtown Los Angeles. With it comes three new additions not available at its other L.A. outposts: bedrooms, a rooftop pool and a gym... Australian artist Paul Davies, now based in L.A., created this large-format painting for the top floor. The Eveleigh Railway Workshops once an imposing symbol of modernity speaks to another time. The vast old wrought iron roof sheltered and brought together hundreds of workers – hardened men from Sydney’s gritty inner suburbs, newly arrived migrants and indigenous peoples from neighbouring Redfern. Despite the harsh, choking conditions working on heavy steam powered rail machinery presents, those that endured spoke of its heart and soul, of forged friendships that would last a lifetime.

September 2019OLSEN Gallery congratulates Sally Anderson, Philjames, Matthew Johnson and James McGrath on their selection as finalists for Mosman Art Prize, 2019.
Established in 1947, the Mosman Art Prize is Australia's oldest and most prestigious local government art award. It was founded by the artist, architect and arts advocate, Alderman Allan Gamble, at a time when only a small handful of art prizes were in existence in Australia and the community had very little support and few opportunities to exhibit their work.
As an acquisitive art award for painting, the winning artworks collected form a splendid collection of modern and contemporary Australian art, reflecting all the developments in Australian art practice since 1947. Artists who have won the Mosman Art Prize include Margaret Olley, Guy Warren, Grace Cossington Smith, Weaver Hawkins, Nancy Borlase, Lloyd Rees, Elisabeth Cummings, Adam Cullen, Michael Zavros and Natasha Walsh.
The Mosman Art Prize will run from Wednesday 11 September - Sunday 27 October at Mosman Art Gallery.

September 2019OLSEN Gallery congratulates McLean Edwards, winner of this years prestigious King's School Art Prize with Dining In, 2019 (pictured). Now in its twenty-fifth year, The King's School Art Prize has been awarded to some of Australia's leading contemporary artists.
The King's Art Prize is a $20,000 acquisitive award presented to the artist judged the best contemporary artwork, created by an artist resident in Australia and represented by a commercial gallery, supporting both the artists and the fine arts industry. Entry is by invitation only and the finalists are selected by an appointed Art Prize panel.
Congratulations to OLSEN Gallery artists Chris Langlois and James McGrath who were also selected as finalists in this years prize.
The Lives of Celestials | John Young Zerunge at Hawthorn Arts Centre, Melbourne
September 2019Artist John Young Zerunge invites us on a journey into the lives of significant figures of the Chinese diaspora in Australia, exploring important events in Chinese-Australian history from the 1840s onwards. Re-interpreted memories are distilled into large-scale installations of chalk drawings, photographs, video works and paintings. A culmination of 3 recent History Projects by the artist, this exhibition reflects on the forces of survival, memory and otherness that continue to shape Australia's contemporary social context. The Lives of Celestials is on display at Hawthorne Art Centre Sat 31 August 2019, until Sun 20 October 2019.

2019Congratulations to Luke Storrier who has been selected as a finalist for the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize for his work Burnt Stick, 2019, mixed media, 17 x 38.5 x 11 cm (pictured). The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, presented by Woollahra Council, today announced 43 emerging and established artists as finalists for the 19th annual Prize and exhibition. The 2019 finalist group includes artists from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom highlighting the Prize's growing international reputation.
The innovative submissions ? each for a freestanding sculpture of up to 80cm in any dimension were selected from 634 entries by a judging panel comprised of Professor Ross Harley, Dean of the Faculty of Art & Design and UNSW Chair of Arts and Culture, Louise Herron AM, Chief Executive Officer, Sydney Opera House, and Design and Architecture advocate, broadcaster, author and comedian, Tim Ross.
