The Maitland Regional Gallery currently is exhibiting Stephen Bird ‘the Bastard Son of Royal Doulton’  a survey exhibition of ceramics, objects and works on paper.

In Rex’s address he said that “In real life BASTARDS have to work harder than legitimate sons to be noticed and this BASTARD son has done exactly that. Stephen’s work is quirky, thoughtful, and technically dazzling. His glazes can make ceramics look like metal, wood or even baked beans. And his work tells us his story, his family story and his relationship with the history and folklore of Australia.”
