Peter Gardiner graduated from the University of Newcastle in 1990 where he currently resides and works today. Gardiner has won the Kilgour Prize in 2016, the Callen Art Prize in 2011, the Muswellbrook Art Prize in 2009 and the Maitland Art Prize in 2003. He has also been selected as a Finalist in the Kilgour Prize, the Wynne Prize, the Dobell Prize for Drawing and the Mosman Art Prize.

Peter Gardiner's work is held in important public collections including Newcastle Regional Gallery, University of Technology Sydney, Deakin University, Newcastle University, Muswellbrook Regional Gallery, Gippsland Regional Gallery, Macquarie Bank Collection and Art Bank.

 

I lean into the landscape, between light and dark... interior and exterior. Sometimes it's so vast it feels like I'm floating in it.
I look back to make sense of what I see in front of me. It's my language and I'm making it up every day.
