Stephen Ormandy has a way with colour. His bold and graphic paintings are strongly influenced by the natural world with a focus on colour and organic forms. His large scale oil paintings and cultural work are a synergy of line, shape and surface all working beautifully in harmony. For Stephen, colour is ''pure joy'' and his latest exhibition at the Olsen Gruin gallery is no exception.

What was the inspiration behind your new body of work? Picasso and Matisse visit often.

"Discussing inspiration for me is like trying to count hundreds and thousands - I’m interested in so much it makes my head hurt."

How has your work evolved throughout the years? I hope it's becoming more informed and in tune, I hope the colours are singing and shouting and along with their friend 'line', whisper sweet poems.

"Colour to me is pure joy - it offers endless possibilities, and is always up for a good time."

When was your love for abstract art first realised? It was when I was 14 and saw the Picasso retrospective at MOMA in 1980. I was hooked.
